StreetGap is a civic-tech project based on open data that analyzes who Italian streets are named after, with a focus on gender representation.
By processing data from OpenStreetMap and other public sources, it maps how urban spaces commemorate women and men across Italy. The goal is not to judge individual naming choices, but to make visible structural imbalances in collective memory and how they appear in the geography of cities.
The project combines deterministic rules, open datasets and AI-assisted classification to build a transparent and reproducible dataset that can be explored through an interactive map.
